Are there romantic pairings in the novel?
Romance is not the main focus of the story although it is the background of several key interactions. If you're familiar with the wuxia genre, then you'll know what I mean. All pairings in the novel are m/f.  

Is Xiao Se a martial expert?
Yes. If he wasn't injured, his talent and skills are on par with Wuxin.

What is Xiao Se's real identity?
His real name is Xiao Chuhe, the sixth prince of Beili. He was crippled and lost his martial arts when he was 17.

What is Wuxin's real identity?
His real name is Ye Anshi, son of Ye Dingzhi who was the Sect Leader of the Demonic Cult. His mother is one of the Emperor's consorts, but not Xiao Se's mother. So, Wuxin and Xiao Se are not related.

Who is Wuxin related to?
Wuxin's half-older brother is Xiao Yu, the seventh prince and Xiao Se's younger half-brother. Xiao Yu shares the same mother as Wuxin and shares the same father as Xiao Se.

Who is Ye Dingzhi? How did he die?

Ye Dingzhi is Wuxin's father and the previous Sect Leader of Outerheaven and the Demonic Cult. In his prime and during the Demonic Cult's attack on Beili, he was widely acknowledged as the number one martial expert under Heaven. The only person who could challenge him was Baili Dongjun, who defeated him by half a move. After Ye Dingzhi's defeat, the Demonic Cult soon lost the war and Ye Dingzhi committed suicide. The details are not revealed in the SNGX novel, but Ye Dingzhi is one of the main characters in the prequel novel, Shao Nian Bai Ma.

Who are Lei Wujie's parents and how old was he when they died?

His father was Lei Mengsha, one of the most promising members of the Lei Clan but from the branch family. He was expelled from the clan for taking up a government position. He went on to become the highest ranking general in the Beili Army and a close confidant of Langya Prince. Eventually, he died in battle when Lei Wujie was about 8 years old.

His mother was Li Xinyue, the successor of Sword Heart Tomb and a consummate swordsman. She held the fourth-ranked Heart sword and was the leader of the Four Guardians of Heavenly Revelations, Qinglong. She was also very close to Langya Prince and stayed with him even after the death of her husband because of the friendship between the two men. She died after failing to save Langya Prince from execution. At the time, Lei Wujie was about 11 years old.

Who is Langya Prince?

Langya Prince Xiao Ruofeng was the current Emperor's full-blooded younger brother and Xiao Se's uncle. He was well-known throughout the martial world and friends with most of the Beili martial experts in the top 10 list. A consummate strategist, he commanded the entire Beili military forces, though Lei Mengsha was the actual General. Despite being the person most suitable to take over the throne, he let his brother, Xiao Ruojin, become the Emperor instead. Xiao Se grew up in awe of his uncle and was his uncle's disciple. Despite everything Xiao Ruofeng did for his country, he was accused of treason and sentenced to death. Throughout his trial, only one person spoke up for him, the sixth prince Xiao Chuhe. Just before the public execution, he committed suicide in front of his brother. To this day, Xiao Se believed his uncle was set up and vowed to uncover the truth.

Who are Tang Lian's parents?

Tang Lian parents were also from the Tang Sect and they left him behind when he was 6 years old. It's not clear why they were escaping from the Tang Sect but they died not long after they left. Three years after that day, Tang Lian became Tang Lianyue's disciple.

Who are the new Baihu and Zhuque Guardians?

Ji Ruofeng was the previous Baihu Guardian and his daughter, Ji Xue, inherited his title. Sikong Changfeng was the previous Zhuque Guardian and his daughter also inherited his title.
